I’ve recently made the decision to offer Neways Products with my business of teaching parents the techniques and benefits of baby massage. I have been researching and trialling many different oils to try and find an oil that is just right for babies. One of the first things I teach parents is how important the oil you use is as the skin is the largest organ in the body and it absorbs the good ingredients we put on it as we’ll as the toxins that are in these products.
It is becoming more and more well known how many harmful products are put in the products we use every day from shampoos to conditioners, deodorants, skin cream, makeup etcetera. How much more important is it to be mindful of what we put on our children skin!
Recently Johnson and. Johnson put out this statement:
JOHNSON & Johnson plans to remove potentially cancer-causing and other dangerous chemicals from nearly all its adult toiletries and cosmetic products worldwide within three and a half years.
The health care giant last year pledged to remove “chemicals of concern” from its baby products sold around the world after being pressed to do so for more than three years by a large coalition of health and environmental groups.
The company said on Tuesday that it remained on track to have baby products, including its Johnson’s No More Tears baby shampoo, reformulated with safer ingredients by the end of 2013.
Adult products will be reformulated by the end of 2015.
“We want people to have complete peace of mind when they use our products,” said Susan Nettesheim, vice president of product stewardship and toxicology for J&J’s consumer health brands.
Those include Johnson’s baby lotion and bath products as well as adult skin care brands.
One of the main areas of concern is the petroleum (paraffinum Liquid/mineral oil) that is the base of these products. The reason this is of concern is that this can be harmful for babies skin, blocking pores and causing rashes as well as absorption into the skin and then into the babies system.
Another Company that uses petroleum (paraffinum Liquid/mineral oil) is MUSTELA . Their products are the product of choice for new parents in Maternity wards in many hospitals.
I recently spoke to a representative of the MUSTELA Company and when I voiced my concern of using paraffinum Liquid/mineral oil on a babies skin she quickly told me that they are coming out with a new formula hopefully by the end of 2013.
This shows that pressure from consumers is slowly bringing about change in these two companies. Meanwhile Neways the Company that makes the oils and lotions I have chosen have been world leaders in making healthy personal care products for over 25 years so they are a way ahead of the game. As a Fibromyalgia sufferer for 9 years I have experienced first hand how hard it is to live with a Chronic illness.
